Laura Machado scored on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute to clinch the Varsity Blues women’s soccer teams 2-1 victory over the RMC Paladins on Saturday, September 18 at Navy Bay Field in Kingston, Ont.
With the win, Toronto improves to 3-1-1 and are tied with the Ottawa Gee-Gees for second place in the OUA East.
Machado of Mississauga, Ont., beat a RMC defender while dribbling into the box and was taken down to garner the penalty kick.
Blues leading scorer Kate Crowley opened the scoring in the third minute of the game when she made good on a cross from fellow London, Ont., native Jennifer Siu.
Stephanie Bengle would even the score 10 minutes later with what would be RMC’s lone goal of the game.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow when they host the Ryerson Rams at Varsity Centre. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
