The No. 9 Varsity Blues women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to the No. 4 Queen’s Gaels in their home opener on Saturday, September 11 at Varsity Centre.
The Gaels dominated the first half, outshooting the Blues 8-1. Second-year midfielder Riley Filion of Alexandria, Ont. opened the scoring in the second minute when she beat Blues goalkeeper Kat Vulic (Oakville) and shot the ball into the middle of the net.
Nine minutes later, veteran striker Kelli Chamberlain (North Bay, Ont.) put the Gaels up by two when she received a pass from Angela Sullivan (Scarborough) and slid the ball into the bottom left corner or the net.
OUA leading scorer Jacqueline Tessier (Peterborough) added Queen’s third goal in the 17th minute when she picked up a Jennifer Hutchison pass an slid the ball under Vulic’s arms.
Despite picking up the pace in the second half, the Blues were unable to solve Gaels goalkeeper Chantel Marson. Vulic made three saves in the loss.
U of T returns to action tomorrow when they host the RMC Paladins at Varsity Centre. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
