The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s curling team went 4-2 and finished in third place in their pool at the 2010 CIS curling championships, March 10-14, at the University of Alberta.

The Blues opened the tournament with a tough 8-6 loss to the Memorial Seahawks but quickly bounced back and went on to win their next four games.
Toronto’s skip Pat Janssen and vice Bill Francis both from Toronto, along with second Jonathan Braden (Bow Island, Alta.) and lead Matthew Hardman of Markham, Ont. defeated the Calgary Dinos, Regina Cougars, Dalhousie Tigers and Laurier Golden Hawks to improve their record to 4-1 in the four-day event.
It all came down to the last game as Toronto squared off against the Manitoba Bisons, who were also 4-1. The winner of the last draw would finish second in the pool and advance to the semifinals.
The Bisons slowly gained a lead, earning one point in four of the first five ends, before coming up big with four points in the sixth end to secure the victory and spot in the semi-final round.
