The defending champion Varsity Blues men’s fencing team were dethroned by the slightest of margins in 2009-10, earning a silver medal at the OUA championships.
The host Carleton Ravens defeated the Blues by one point (194 -193) to reclaim the title they had not won since 2000-01.
After finishing in the top three in the men’s foil, sabre and épée team events at the OUA West qualifier, Toronto went on to earn a first-place finish in the foil event at the conference championships. The top Varsity Blues were Kamil Karbonowski and Kyle Chan, who won silver and bronze respectively.
The Blues managed fourth place finishes in both the sabre and epée competitions. Gordon Geringas was U of T’s top performer in the sabre. The Toronto native tallied 19 points in his bronze-medal performance. Felix Pang was the top competitor for Varsity in the epée event, finishing in fifth place with 12 points.
