BLUES HIT STRIDE WITH BACK-TO-BACK WINS AT HOME

The Varsity Blues women’s soccer team recorded their second straight shut-out win with a 2-0 victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday, October 9 at Varsity Centre.

With the win, the Blues improve to 5-2-4 and sit in third place in the OUA East division.

Toronto opened the scoring in the 28th minute when veteran defender Alicia Lashley of Ottawa jumped on the ball in a scramble in the 6-yard box and tipped the ball passed the line.

U of T’s second goal came in the 43rd minute when Kate Crowley of London, Ont., sent a beautiful through ball to Diana Esterireiro. The Etobicoke, Ont., native made no mistake, sliding the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

The Blues continued to dominate throughout the second half but would no solve Lakers goalkeeper Samantha Behm.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Wednesday, October 13 for a cross-town battle with the Ryerson Rams at Lamport Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
