In a stellar offensive effort, the Varsity Blues women’s soccer team defeated the Laurentian Lady Vees 3-0 on Friday, October 8 at Varsity Centre.
With the win, the Blues improve to 4-2-4 and sit in fourth place with a game in hand over the third-place Lady Vees (5-3-3) in the OUA East division.
Toronto opened the scoring early when Calgary native Shirley Ho fought through a scramble in the 18-yard box and headed the ball into the top corner of the net.
Jennifer Siu of London, Ont., would put the Blues up by two just before the first half expired when she capitalized on a Laurentian turnover and sent a booming shot past goalkeeper Michelle Phillip (Toronto).
U of T continued to dominate throughout the second half, outshooting Laurentian 8-2.
Veteran defender Nav Deol of Mississauga, Ont., added an insurance marker as she headed a Danielle Esteireiro (Etobicoke, Ont.) corner kick into the net in the 55th minute.
Blues goalkeeper Kat Vulic of Oakville, Ont., made two saves in the shut-out victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host the Nipissing Lakers at Varsity Centre. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
