The Varsity Blues women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the No. 6 Ottawa Gee-Gees in their final regular season game on Sunday, October 24 at Varsity Centre.
The Blues finish the season in third place in the OUA East division with an 8-4-4 record and will host the sixth-place Nipissing Lakers (5-7-4) in an OUA playoff match this Wednesday, October 27 at 1 p.m.
Ottawa finishes second in the standings and earns a bye into the quarter-final round on Saturday, October 30.
Ottawa native Gillian Baggott scored the lone goal of the game in the 75th minute, when she sent a free kick from 40-yards out over the head of Blues goalkeeper Kat Vulic into the top right corner of the net.
The Blues certainly held the upper hand in scoring opportunities, outshooting the Gee-Gees 4-1 over the course of the match.
Ottawa goalkeeper Melissa Pesant made four saves in the shut out victory.
