WOMEN’S WATER POLO 2009 YEAR IN REVIEW

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s water polo team finished the 2009 regular season with a 6-2 record and in second in the OUA standings.

The defending OUA champions’ only two losses came at the hands of the undefeated Carleton Ravens.

At the conference championship, the Blues defeated the host McMaster Marauders 11-6 in semi-final action to earn a spot in the gold-medal match. Toronto squared off against their nemesis from Carleton University in a rematch of the 2008 final. Despite their best efforts, Toronto dropped a close 6-5 decision on their way to earning the OUA silver medal.

Nicole Brown, Laura Shaw and Casey Pottier finished 1-2-3 in OUA scoring with 23, 22 and 20 goals respectively, while Brittany Sinclair was sixth with 18 goals this season. Brown and Sinclair were named OUA first team all-stars, while Shaw and Pottier garnered second team honours.
