MEN’S & WOMEN’S CURLING 1-2 AT OUA EAST SECTIONALS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s and women’s curling team finished 1-2 at the 2010 OUA East Sectionals this weekend (Jan. 9-10) at the Idlwylde Golf and Country Club in Sudbury, Ont. 

The men’s team first competed against Queen’s, winning 6-4. They went on to face the host Laurentian Voyageurs and narrowly lost the match by one point, 4-3. In their final game of the day, the Blues fell to the Trent Excalibur 10-4. 

The women’s team fell 7-5 in a close match against the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday afternoon. However, they rebounded nicely to defeat the Voyageurs 11-9 on Saturday night. Despite the Blues best efforts, Trent managed to take the final match of the day 9-6 - both games were close and needed an extra end to determine a winner.

In the skill-based team rankings, U of T tallied 18 points the men’s division to claim second just behind Laurentian with 21, while the women’s team came out on top with a total of 17 points. 

The Varsity Blues curling teams returns to the rink February 6-7 when they travel to Peterborough, Ont.for the OUA Crossover hosted by Trent University.
