WOMENS SOCCER DOMINATES TRENT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s soccer team defeated the Trent Excalibur by a score of 4-0 on Wednesday, September 30 in Peterborough, Ont.

The Varsity Blues quickly picked up right where they left off last weekend, handing the Excalibur their third consecutive loss. Erica Basso (King City, Ont.) opened the scoring in the sixth minute for Toronto, with Jessica Fantozzi (Richmond Hill, Ont.) adding a tally before halftime to put the Blues up 2-0.

The Blues showed no signs of slowing down in the second half as Arin King (Pickering, Ont.) found the back of the net in the 63rd minute to put the Blues up three. Basso struck again in 69th minute to round out the scoring.

The Blues moved the ball very well throughout the contest and every player dressed, played, and contributed to the win.  Mary Anne Barnes (Scarborough, Ont.) saw limited action and only had to make a single save to earn the shutout.

The Varsity Blues now move into a tie with Ottawa atop the OUA East standings with 20 points. Basso’s two goals on Wednesday evening catapult the fourth-year student to the top of the OUA leader board as she now has a total of six goals in seven games played.

You can catch the next Varsity Blues home game on Wednesday, October 9, when the Varsity Blues host the Ryerson Rams at Varsity Centre. Game time is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
