Yoko Murphy, Taryn Grieder and Tory Merrill led the Varsity Blues women’s lacrosse team to an impressive 19-8 victory against the McMaster Marauders in their first of two games for Toronto on Saturday, Sept. 26. 

Murphy (Toronto) scored an impressive five goals, while Grieder (Cobourg, Ont.) and Merrill (Orangeville, Ont.) followed up with four goals apiece. 

The Blues had a good start right off the bat with Grieder scoring the first goal for Toronto just two minutes into the game. The Marauders fought back but the Blues were able to maintain their lead, ending the first half with a comfortable six goal advantage (11-5). 

At the beginning of the second half the Marauders began to gain some ground, edging their way back in the game with two goals from Jackie Heaton (Peterborough, Ont.) and one from Kate Woods (Orton, Ont.), however, momentum soon shifted as the Blues scored another six consecutive goals to end the game. 

The Varsity Blues return to action with another two games this weekend, playing Guelph at 2 p.m. this afternoon (Sept. 26) and Queen’s at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 27th, both games to be played at the Varsity Centre.
