The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s water polo team notched their third consecutive win, handily defeating the York Lions 15-6 on Wednesday, November 4 at Varsity Pool.
Fourth-year history major Laura Shaw (Vancouver, B.C.) started the Blues off right, tallying four goals in the first six minutes. Nicole Brown (Burlington, Ont.) also scored four goals with Brittney Sinclair (Scarborough, Ont.) notching two and Casey Pottier (Kitchener, Ont.) adding a single tally as Toronto built a 10-1 lead after the first quarter.
The Lions picked up their play in the second quarter, limiting the Blues to just one goal. Chelsea Knowles (Hamilton, Ont.) and Ann Nisiewicz (Toronto) each scored for York and Toronto held an 11-3 lead at halftime.
U of T went on to outscore the Lions 4-3 in the second half as Brown and Shaw completed their five-goal performance and Nicole McKenzie (Burlington, Ont.) and Ceilidh Kinlan (Toronto) each added their first goals of the season.
Brown leads the OUA in scoring with 15 goals in five games. The Blues (4-1) currently sit tied for first with the Carleton Ravens (4-0).
The Varsity Blues return to the pool next Monday, November 9 when they host the McMaster Marauders at Varsity Pool. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
