The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s soccer team defeated the RMC Paladins 6-0 on Saturday, October 24 at Varsity Centre.
The Blues wasted no time early in the game as Mel Seabra (Brampton, Ont.) found the net in the 3rd minute. Jessica Fantozzi (Richmond Hill, Ont.) scored her team-leading seventh goal only minutes later and West Vancouver, B.C. native Mel Bowen would make it 3-0 before the half time whistle.
The play would remain the same throughout the second half, as the Blues scored three times in a ten minute span to cruise to victory. Natalie Law (Unionville, Ont.) tallied a goal in the 72nd minute, while London, Ont. native Jennifer Siu added one in the 74th. Christina Fantozzi (Richmond Hill, Ont.) would round out the scoring in the 77th minute.
With the victory, the Varsity Blues sit in second place in the OUA East, with one game remaining. Toronto will host the third-place Ottawa Gee Gee’s on Sunday, October 25 at Varsity Centre. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The game carries significant importance, as the winner of tomorrow’s contest will finish in second place in the OUA East, guaranteeing a first round bye in the OUA playoffs.
