The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s soccer team is gunning for four points in their last two regular season games this weekend (Oct. 24-25) at Varsity Centre.
The Blues currently sit in second-place (10-1-3) in the competitive OUA East division, five points behind the No. 3 Queen’s Gaels (12-1-2) and one point ahead of the No. 5 Ottawa Gee-Gees (10-2-2).
Toronto will vie for two crucial victories over the RMC Paladins on Saturday and the Gee-Gees on Sunday, both at 1 p.m., and also need Queen’s to drop at least two points to the Carleton Ravens this weekend. If the Gaels lose their final game, the Blues would move into first due to their head-to-head record against Queen’s (1-0-1).
Less than four points this weekend could put the Blues out of contention for either of the top two spots in the East division and leave them in danger of losing a bye into the OUA quarter-finals.
The Blues will rely on leading scorers Erica Basso (King City, Ont.) and Jessica Fantozzi (Richmond Hill, Ont.) as well as the solid defensive play that has allowed only seven goals against thus far in 2009.
Notes:
The Varsity Blues No. 5 men’s soccer team is also hosting their last regular season game on Saturday versus RMC. Game time is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. U of T has already clinched first place and has earned a bye into the OUA quarter-finals next Saturday, October 31.
