NO. 1 RAVENS DOWN BLUES IN OTTAWA

Stuart Turnbull led the No. 1 Carleton University Ravens past the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, 81-68, in OUA men’s basketball action on Friday, January 9th at the Ravens Nest in Ottawa.

With the loss, the Blues fall to 6-4 on the season, while the Ravens improve to a league best 8-1.

Toronto fell behind early but kept things close through the opening 10 minutes of play.
Down by just three heading into the second quarter, the Ravens went on to outscore the Blues 20-15 in the second, building an eight-point lead (40- 32) at the halfway mark of the game.

The Ravens Stuart Turnbull (Kingston, Ont.) and a very stingy Carleton defence held the Toronto offence to just 16-points in the third stanza. Turnbull proved to be the difference maker on this night. The fifth-year veteran led all scorers with 25 points and 15 rebounds, shooting 53% from the floor (10-for-19).

The Blues still could not find an answer the fourth despite solid numbers from their backcourt. Toronto’s tandem of Rob Paris (St. Catharines, Ont.) and Nick Magalas (Burlington, Ont.) tallied 17 and 16 points respectively in the loss.

Third-year forward Ahmed Nazmi (Cairo, EGY) added 11 points and a three rebounds, while Patrick Sewell (London, Ont.) and Drazen Glisic (Sarajevo, BIH) each hauled in six boards.

Three other players were in double figures for the Ravens: Ottawa natives Mike Kenny and Kevin McCleery tallied 18 and 16 points each, while Aaron Doornekamp (Odessa, Ont.) knocked down 11. Doornekamp added also added six assists in the win.

Toronto 17 15 16 20 = 68
Ravens 20 20 17 24 = 81
