WOMEN'S LACROSSE WIN OUA BRONZE

Jen Held scored five goals and added one assist as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues defeated the Western Mustangs 12-6 to claim the bronze medal at the 2008 OUA Lacrosse Championship at University Stadium in Waterloo.

The Blues dominated offensively in the bronze medal game on Sunday, with four different players recording goals. Held (Brampton, Ont.) scored five, while third-year standout Yoko Murphy (Toronto, Ont.) notched three goals and two assists in the win. Toronto native Taryn Greider netted three goals while Tory Merrill (Orangeville, Ont.) added one.

In Saturday’s semi-final game, Toronto narrowly fell to the undefeated Laurier Golden Hawks 13-9. Murphy had a fantastic first half of play, scoring five goals to give Toronto a 6-5 lead at the midway point of the game.

The Golden Hawks took control in the second half, recording eights goals and displaying why they have won the last five provincial titles. Murphy added another goal in the second half, while Merrill, Greider and Held added one apiece in the loss.
