OUA East rookie of the year Jill Stratton scored 15 points in the second half to lift the No. 6 Varsity Blues to a 62-54 victory over the No. 9 Laurier Golden Hawks in the OUA women’s basketball bronze medal game on Saturday night.

 

A native of Etobicoke, Ont., Stratton added nine rebounds and five steals to her season-high 15-point performance. Also a member of the OUA East all-rookie team, Stratton rallied the troops from a seven-point deficit at halftime to gain Toronto’s first lead of the game with two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

 

A first-year physical education and health major, Stratton earned player of the game honours after adding seven more points early in the fourth quarter to spark a 16-7 run and seal the win.
