Third-year Varsity Blues track and field standout James Turner placed first overall in the men’s pentathlon at the 2014 Fred Foot Classic this past weekend (Jan. 17-18) at U of T’s Athletic Centre Field House.
The Kelowna, B.C., native finished with a combined score of 3768 points, 252 points ahead of second-place Chris Robertson of the Western Mustangs. Turner, the defending OUA men’s pentathlon champion, topped the field in the 60m hurdles (8.61), 1000m (2:43.11) and long jump (6.66m) events, while placing second in the shot put (13.81m) and fifth in the high jump competition (1.82m).
A physical education major, Turner also earned a second-place finish in the men’s 300m sprint in a time of 37.09 seconds.Â
