The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's rugby team opened their 2026 OUA season on Saturday (Sept. 5) afternoon in Waterloo with a 67-21 loss versus the Laurier Golden Hawks.
The Varsity Blues opened the road contest strong, jumping out to a 7-5 advantage after the first 15 minutes of action. However, the Golden Hawks were spurred on by the home crowd to bounce back with 24 unanswered points. The stark shift in momentum secured the victory as the Blues were unable to keep pace.
Fourth-year wing Adele Church was a standout for the Blues finishing the day with a try and three converts. Both second-year forward Bem Marie Parrenas and first-year back Maya Shapira also found the try zone for U of T in the road outing.
Toronto will stay on the road as they next head to Hamilton to challenge the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, Sept. 12. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Varsity Blues will then host their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 19 versus the Waterloo Warriors. Tickets for all home rugby matches are available at
