The University of Toronto Varity Blues women's rugby team fell 43-10 in their home opener to the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday (Sept. 19) night at Varsity Stadium.

Holding the fort throughout the match, the Blues tryline defence was strong, fending off the Warriors with two stops in the first 11 minutes to get the Varsity Stadium faithful roaring. In the first half, the Blues and Warriors traded opportunities as the physicality was on display through 40 minutes. With a 15-5 lead in the 47^th minute, the Warriors surged in a strong second half that helped propel the visitors to victory.

Leading the way offensively for Toronto was first-year back Leilani Grier and third-year flanker Lama Abousalem who each scored a try.

For the Warriors, Olivia Larssen and Rapaela Boronka each had two tries. Meanwhile, Adria Marsh scored a try and added four coverts.

The Blues will now turn their attention to Saturday (Sept. 26) night when they host the Guelph Gryphons at Varsity Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets.
