The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team fell 4-1 versus the York Lions on Sunday (Sept. 27) morning at Alumni Field.
After going undefeated through the first five games of the regular season, the loss marked the first for the Blues during their 2026 campaign. Both Toronto and York now sit in a tie for second place in the OUA standings with identical 4-1-1 (W-L-T) records.
In the Sunday showdown at York, the home side Lions came out with a fire looking to avenge a loss at the start of the season. Under constant pressure, U of T goalie Mary Yang made plays with seven total saves across the 60 minute contest. However, York was able to break through building a 3-0 lead by the half.
Varsity Blues captain Maggie Mullins notched the lone marker of the game for Toronto late in the fourth but it would not be enough to spark the Toronto offence.
Toronto will close out a four-game road swing next Saturday (Oct. 3) when they travel to challenge the Guelph Gryphons. Following the road game, the Blues return to Back Campus Fields for their first home games in more than two weeks welcoming the McMaster Marauders to U of T on Sunday (Oct. 4). Action from Guelph is scheduled to start at 12 p.m., while the home game the next day starts at 2 p.m.
