The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team maintained their undefeated streak on Friday (Sept. 25) night with a 1-0 clean sheet victory over the Queen's Gaels.
In the second game of a four game road swing, the Blues continued to showcase themselves as one of the top contenders in the province. The win improves U of T's record to 4-0-1 (W-L-T) which keeps them in first place in the OUA standings.
Despite the one-goal victory, Toronto were dominant in Kingston on Friday night. The Blues offensive pressure garnered 11 penalty corners and five shots on goal. The eventual game-winner came courtesy first-year forward Olivia Thompson in the 55th minute. The goal marked her second of the season, coming in back-to-back games. Defensively, the Blues were also outstanding limited Queen's to just one penalty corner and one shot on goal through the full 60 minutes.
The Blues now return to Toronto to challenge the York Lions on their home turf. U of T already hold a victory over the defending OUA champions, knocking them off 1-0 in the Blues home opener earlier this fall. The rematch is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 27) morning.
