*Varsity Blues men's soccer season preview, presented by Lebanese Garden*

After capturing the program's 51st OUA Championship banner a season ago, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team returns to the pitch in 2026 with a new-look roster ready to write its own chapter.

Nationally ranked throughout last year, the Blues finished the regular season first overall in the OUA East with a 10-1-1 (W-L-T) record. Earning a bye to the provincial quarter-finals, they would go on to defeat Ontario Tech, Waterloo, and York to claim the championship trophy. Toronto's offensive attack was unstoppable in 2025, leading the OUA with 42 goals across 12 regular season contests. However, what made them championship calibre was their defence as well, which conceded a province low eight goals. To achieve this again, the Blues will be looking for some new names to step up as they are without nine starters from a season ago. Opportunity will be aplenty for those returning players and new recruits joining the roster for the 2026 campaign.

FROM THE COACH'S DESK
"We have a very new team this season, with 16 new players in a squad of 25, and nine new starters. Our biggest priority throughout training camp is building the team and getting everyone on the same page as quickly as possible. It is a massive rebuild for us, but we still expect to be competitive with the younger players coming in. It will be a big learning year and a significant challenge, but we are looking forward to developing this new core group of players and seeing how much we can improve throughout the season."

"Training camp has been intense, but the team has been working hard and playing with the same intentions every day. I'm most excited to work with our younger players and see what they can contribute to the team. We have some really talented new faces, and it'll be exciting to watch them develop throughout the year. The goal is simple: win another OUA championship. We know what it takes to get there, and we're going to hold ourselves to that standard throughout the season."

MARQUEE GAMES
August 29 vs. TMU
The season and home opener for the Blues will welcome inner-city rival TMU to Varsity Stadium for yet another showdown between the two OUA East juggernauts. The pair have split their last four meetings with U of T earning a 1-0 home win in the most recent derby. Always a showcase of physical soccer, the Blues will be aiming to start their season off on the right foot versus the Bold.

September 20 vs. Trent
The last home game before three long road trips, Toronto will be aiming to build themselves up in this contest versus the Excalibur. The Blues hold an undefeated record of 24-0-5 (W-L-D) against Trent dating back to 2008, and across the last two seasons have outscored the Peterborough-based squad 14-3 in three wins. Another strong offensive showing at Varsity Stadium will go a long way in building the Blues for the grueling road swing that follows.

October 10 vs. Ontario Tech
No matter what the season may look like for the Ridgebacks, they always deliver their best when challenging the Blues. The regular season home finale for U of T will be a match that is essential for momentum ahead of postseason play. And it will be one the home crowd will be leaned on for a very game opponent as Ontario Tech have won two of the last three meetings in this budding rivalry.
