The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team defeated the McMaster Marauders in an exhibition match on Sunday (Aug. 23) afternoon at Varsity Stadium.

Toronto put the pressure on the Marauders in the first half, controlling possession and pushing the ball up the field. U of T was able to generate three shots to McMaster's one and forcing the Marauders on their heels to generate a corner. In the 43^rd minute, third-year midfielder Emilia Lucic kept her strong form from the previous season to break the scoreless draught to give U of T momentum heading into halftime.

In the second half the Blues and Marauders traded chances with as the intensity ramped up. In the 71^st minute, McMaster evened the score as Akeelah Omokuha's kick from the top of the box made it a brand-new game.

Keeping their composure, the Blue and White put their foot on the gas pedal as the generated quality chances in the box, testing Marauders goalkeeper Lily Reynolds. In the 89^th minute, U of T was rewarded for their perseverance as third-year forward Naomi Atem's shot went off the post and in, giving Toronto a late lead. In the 90^th minute, the Blues quickly struck again, taking advantage of a pressing Marauders squad with third-year forward Beatrice Audain challenging the keeper and striking the ball into the back of the net as Toronto took a two-goal advantage into the final whistle.

Now, the reigning OUA women's soccer champion Blues will prepare for their season opener as they host the TMU Bold at Varsity Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. The game will also be live streamed on oua.tv.
