CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: CUTC TENNIS

Both the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's and men's tennis teams head back to Montreal this week for the 2026 Canadian University Tennis Championships, hosted at IGA Stadium from May 28-31.
 
The OUA defending champion Varsity Blues women open the championships versus the Canada West champion UBC Thunderbirds on Thursday (May 28) morning at 9 a.m. Toronto have come home with national bronze in each of the last two season, and they will be looking to improve on that effort in their third straight appearance.

Leading the way for U of T will be two-time OUA player of the year Anastasiya Dyadchenko. A standout in both singles and doubles matches, Dyadchenko is a three-time OUA all-star and two-time CUTC all-star. The roster is filled futher with plenty of experience including Veronika Podobed, Maria Popova, Noelle Vanasse Wilbert, and Felina Yang.

The second national semifinal on the women's side of the draw will feature the Laval Rouge et Or and Dalhousie Tigers. The winners of both semifinals will meet in the championship final on Saturday (May 30) at 9 a.m.
 
On the men's side of the draw, U of T will challenge the AUS champion Dalhousie Tigers in the opening round of the championship with first serve scheduled for Friday (May 29) morning at 9 a.m. The Varsity Blues last appeared at the national championship in 2023-24, defeating Dalhousie to claim a bronze medal.
 
The U of T men will be led by a youthful contingent including 2025 OUA rookie of the year Lucas Mock, alongside second-year standouts Ben Whitley and Eric Ma. The trio are joined by veteran Varsity Blue Rassam Yazdi, with the strong contingent all playing a role in the Blues during their run a 41st provincial title in program history this past fall.

The other national semifinal will pit UBC against Laval, with the winner of each final four showdown then facing off for gold on Sunday (May 31) at 9 a.m.
