BLUES ROLL ONTO GOLD MEDAL MATCH FOLLOWING SEMIFINAL WIN OVER YORK

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's tennis team continued their push to repeat as champions for third consecutive season defeating the host York Lions 6-1 in a semifinal showdown on Saturday (Oct. 11) at Mayfair Club – Toronto East.

The Blues kept rolling with a sweep of the doubles matches and only one singles contest dropped. Veronika Podobed was exceptional in the Saturday showdown earning an impressive 6-1, 6-1 singles win and 8-2 doubles victory alongside partner Maria Popova. The duo of Anastasiya Dyadchenko and Katherine Zhang also claimed singles and doubles wins, while Ipek Battal rounded out the singles wins for Toronto.

U of T will go up against the No. 7 seed Queen's Gaels who earned a thrilling 4-3 upset win over the Western Mustangs on Saturday. Toronto previously defeated Queen's 6-1 during the regular season portion of their 2025 campaign. The Blues have won four of the last five OUA banners and will be looking to claim a 42nd in program history.

The gold medal match is slated to begin at 12 p.m. inside Mayfair Club – Toronto East on Sunday.
