2025 CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: VARSITY BLUES TENNIS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues tennis teams head back to Mayfair Toronto East for the 2025 OUA Championships scheduled for October 10-12.

The U of T women will enter the championship as the No. 1 seed after winning the provincial banner in 2024, while the Varsity Blues men's will be a No. 2 seed following a silver medal finish last fall.
 
Men's Schedule
Friday, October 10
Quarter-Final C: No. 3 York vs No. 6 Queen's – 9 a.m.
Quarter-Final D: No. 4 Waterloo vs No. 5 Ottawa – 12 p.m.
Quarter-Final B: No. 2 Toronto vs No. 7 Brock – 3 p.m.
Quarter-Final A: No. 1 Western vs No. 8 McMaster – 6 p.m.

Saturday, October 11
Semifinal B: Winner Quarter-Final B vs Winner Quarter-Final C – 2:30pm
Semifinal A: Winner Quarter-Final A vs Winner Quarter-Final D – 4 p.m.

Sunday, October 12
Bronze Medal: Loser Semifinal A vs Loser Semifinal B – 10:30 a.m.
Gold Medal: Winner Semifinal A vs Winner Semifinal B – 1:30 p.m.

For the men, Toronto will once again be led by veteran No. 1 Rassam Yazdi. An engineering major, Yazdi is a multi-time OUA all-star and was named OUA Player of the Year in 2022. Additionally, Lucas Mock and Eric Ma have been relied on in the No. 2 and No. 3 slots throughout the season, assisted the Blues in achieving an impressive 5-2 record ahead of this weekend.

The Blues men will be looking to claim their 41st championship in program history, with their most recent coming in 2023.

Quarter-Final B: No. 2 McMaster vs No. 7 Queen's – 10:30 a.m.
Quarter-Final A: No. 1 Toronto vs No. 8 Ottawa – 1:30 p.m.
Quarter-Final C: No. 3 Western vs No. 6 Brock – 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, October 11
Semifinal B: Winner Quarter-Final B vs Winner Quarter-Final C – 12 p.m.
Semifinal A: Winner Quarter Final A vs Winner Quarter Final D – 2:30 p.m.

Sunday, October 12
Bronze Medal: Loser Semifinal A vs Loser Semifinal B – 9:30 a.m.
Gold Medal: Winner Semifinal A vs Winner Semifinal B – 12 p.m.

For the women, Toronto will be looking to two-time OUA all-star and 2023 OUA Player of the Year Anastasiya Dyadchenko. The third-year social sciences student has served as the Blues No. 1 singles and doubles player over the last two seasons, and has once again delivered in that role this fall. A consistency in the Blues championship roster also remains with returners like Maria Popova, Kaira Xuan, Veronika Podobed, and Noelle Vanasse Wilbert to name a few, all providing that championship experience.

Toronto went 6-0 through their fall competition schedule and will be aiming for a three-peat, having won the last three consecutive OUA Championships. A win will also mark their 42nd provincial banner in program history.
