DE SERRES GOLDEN WITH TEAM FRANCE AT IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey alumna contributed to Team France's gold-medal victory at the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship Division I Group A in Budapest, Hungary this past week.

Following an overtime loss versus host Hungary in their opening game of the international showcase, France rebounded with four straight wins to secure first place overall and earn promotion to the 2027 IIHF Women's World Championship top division.

De Serres scored the game-winner in France's final game of the championship, totaling four points (2 G, 2 A) across the five games played at the tournament. De Serres also scored two of four goals for France at the 2026 Olympic Games earlier this year, proving to be a valuable member of the ascending national program.

De Serres made an immediate impact on the Blues roster, being named to the OUA all-rookie team, as well as the U SPORTS all-rookie team in the 2017-18 season. She earned OUA second team all-star honours in helping the Blues to the 2019-20 OUA McCaw Cup provincial title. In her final season as a Blue, she was named the OUA East MVP, as well as an OUA East first team all-star and second team all-Canadian.

France will now join women's hockey powerhouses Canada and USA in the 10-team 2027 IIHF Women's World Championship in Quebec City.
