BLUES CLAIM TOP PRIZE IN MEN'S 4X400M RELAY AT CAN-AM CLASSIC

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team wrapped up the Can-Am Classic in Windsor, Ont., on Saturday (Jan. 10) afternoon.

Both the Blues men's and women's teams claimed four top-three finishes on Day 2 of the Can-Am Classic.

Day 2 Results

The Blues claimed one first-place finish on the afternoon. In the men's 4x400m relay, a veteran heavy group of Caiden Schultz, Christopher De Martin, Nickolas Trieu and Moses Aidoo notched the top spot out of 12 teams. The four Blues combined to finish the race in 3:23.89 as relay races continued to be a key component to the Blue and White's success this weekend.

The Blues men's team kicked thing off on the track with De Martin earning a third-place finish of out 25 runners in the 600m with a time of 1:22.83. In the 1000m, Trieu finished third out of 21 total runners with a time of 2:27.80. Wrapping things up individually on the men's side with third-year information student Jack O'Connell who finished in third-place out of 37 participants. The Toronto native's time of 4:16.08 was enough to edge out Guelph's Nicolas Belan to stop the Gryphons of claiming all top-three spots.

The women claimed two podium finishes on the field. In the weight throw, fifth-year medicine student Lily Spoozak's throw went for 17.08m for a second place finish out of 15 throwers. Meanwhile, in long jump, Hasveena Arulrajan jumped a distance of 5.62m as the Brampton native found herself in third-place out of 30 participants. On the track, first-year social sciences student Lecia Patrick finished in third-place in the final with a time of 7.78. Capping off action on the track was Michaela Wilson, Alexandra Tenn, Emily Wilke, and Julia Agostinelli who finished in second place in the 4x400m relay. The Blues quartet finished the race in 4:00.23.

Overall, U of T garnered 13 top-three finishes with the women's track and field team earning seven over the two days of the event and the men's team adding six.

Looking ahead, the Blues will turn their attention to the Fred Foot Classic at the Athletic Centre Field House on Friday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan17 as well as the Lumberjack Team Challenge in Flagstaff, Arizona., on Jan. 17.
