The University of Toronto announced Wednesday that Varsity Blues figure skating head coach Brittany De Lapeyre is stepping down, effective immediately.
Â
De Lapeyre was named the Blues head coach in 2018 and has guided U of T to three OUA championship titles, two silver medals and one bronze-medal finish. She will be taking time away from the rink to focus on her family.
Â
"Coaching the Varsity Blues was never just a job, it was the continuation of my passion for skating, which started 30 years ago," said De Lapeyre. "To say goodbye to this part of my life is incredibly difficult, but I take solace in knowing that this journey ended with being a part of a championship-quality team at one of the highest ranked universities in the world. Â The entire staff and faculty dedicated to intercollegiate athletics as well as all of the athletes are world class and I am honoured to have been a part of it. I wish to always call Varsity Arena and the University of Toronto home."
Â
While studying at the University of Delaware, she majored in athletic training, while taking a minor in both figure skating coaching science and strength and conditioning. She also holds a BA in psychology from York University.Â
Â
"Her impact extended beyond medals," said Steve Manchur, Manager of Intercollegiate Sport. "Brittany's dedication, passion and expertise has provided significant impact for our student-athletes, and her heartfelt farewell reflects the deep connection she had with the program. We truly wish her nothing but the best."
