Splitting time this weekend between the Panda Open in Alberta and the Team Challenge in Windsor, the University of Toronto track and field team was putting in lots of work as they continue final preparations ahead of provincial and national championships.
Pursuing an ever-building peak ahead of the major showcase events, the Blues received several strong efforts, including eight podium results.
Leading the charge with a double-gold in the men's high jump, both Alec Brent and Mason McGregor cleared 2.05m, to finish in a tie for first overall in the 19-person field.
Adding a one-two finish in the men's long jump at Windsor, veterans Ryan Denman and Eric Che picked up gold and silver with leaps of 7.36m and 7.18m, respectively.
Also reaching the podium in the field was fourth-year jumper Emma Dale, who cleared 1.62m to place third at the Team Challenge.
Shifting to the track in Windsor, first-year Blue Killian Naughton crossed the finish line second in the men's 600m with a time of 1:21.59.
Meanwhile in Alberta, fellow first-year Blue Gloria Etim took third in the highly competitive women's 60m sprint, posting a time of 7.49.
Only one more weekend remains before championship season begins, setting up a final opportunity for preparation at the annual Hal Brown Last Chance Meet, hosted by U of T inside the Bruce Kidd Field House. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.
A select number of athletes will also travel south to compete at the David Henry Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University from Feb. 14-15.
