Continuing preparations for the upcoming 2025 OUA Figure Skating Championship, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues competed at the Brock Invitational on Monday (Feb. 3), winning overall gold at Canada Games Park in Thorold, Ont.
Toronto excelled at the open invitational event which featured competitors from nine different OUA schools. The Varsity Blues six event medals, including four gold medals, scored U of T 59 total points to place first in the overall standings, with McMaster (54) and Western (32) rounding out the overall podium.
A triple gold-medalist on the day, Gabriella Guo claimed first in the Novice Short Program before joining partner Hugo Li to earn first in the Senior Pairs. Guo and Li were then joined by Victoria Bocknek and Lara Zeldovich for the Freeskate Fours where the U of T skaters also took first place. Adding to his medal haul, Li took second in the Men's Freeskate, while Bocknek also added another gold for Toronto in the Gold Freeskate. First-year Varsity Blue Megan Lamanna rounded out the U of T medalists, placing second in the Women's Star 10 event. The Blues also received strong results from Olivia Pulsifer and Nicole Chan in the Couples Artistic skate, finishing fourth, and from Katya Gereluk who took fifth in the Gold Artistic category.
The Blues now have on final month to prepare for the provincial showcase, scheduled to take place at the Mattamy Athletic Centre right here in Toronto from March 4-5.Â
