BLUES OPEN COMPETITION AT 2025 OUA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team were back in action on the opening day of competition at the 2025 OUA Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Windsor inside the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse.

The No. 8 nationally ranked Toronto women currently sit in fourth place in the overall team standings with 18.5 points, while the No. 8 nationally ranked U of T men hold onto fourth overall with 28 points following the first day of action.

Competition continues tomorrow (Feb. 22) morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the women's weight throw, while action on the track will begin with the 60m semifinals at 11:35 a.m. The entirety of Day 2 can be streamed online via oua.tv.

WOMEN'S RESULTS:
Adding another medal to her career tally, fourth-year distance specialist Julia Agostinelli captured bronze in the women's 1000m, finishing in a time of 2:48.44. Agostinelli will have a chance to add a second individual medal when she next competes in the 1500m on Saturday afternoon. Additionally, she has previously secured her spot in the 1000m at the U SPORTS national championships, surpassing the U SPORTS auto-qualifying time at the Penn State National Open in late January.

Remaining on the track, fourth-year athlete Quinn Miller placed fourth in the highly competitive women's 60m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 8.50 seconds. Miller was less than a second away from earning a podium finish as both the second and third place finishers clocked in at 8.49. A busy Day 1 for Miller, she also competed in the pole vault, clearing 3.55m to finish ninth.

Another fourth-place finish for the Blues, fifth-year pole vaulter Alexzandra Throndson successfully cleared 3.70m to place just outside the Top 3. Throndson is another U of T athlete who has already booked a ticket to the U SPORTS national championships, previously clearing the U SPORTS auto-qualifying height of 3.90m at the Penn State event as well.

In preliminary races, both first-year sprinters Gloria Etim and Alexandra Tenn earned a berth to the 60m semifinals scheduled for Saturday morning. Etim produced the fourth fastest prelim tim of 7.52, while Tenn cross the line in 7.84 to finish as one of the Top 14 runners in the 30-person field.

MEN'S RESULTS:
In the field, fifth-year jumper Eric Che garnered a bronze medal in the men's long jump, producing a leap of 7.36m to claim the third step on the podium. The medal marked the third OUA championship medal earned by Che in his Varsity Blues career, previously winning gold in 2022 and 2023.

Shifting to the track for the men's 300m, U of T saw two runners in the Top 6 as Felimon Henok finished fourth in a time of 34.85 and Caiden Schultz claimed sixth with a time of 35.11. The pair added an impressive eight points to the team total in the overall standings for Toronto.

As well, in the men's 4x800m relay the quartet of Shan Dhanoa, Nick Trieu, Brandon Cidade, and Sam Meyers placed fourth in a time of 7:40.64. The Blues would be just 0.4 second off of a podium position. Individually, Myers also picked up a strong result in the men's 1000m, earning a sixth-place finish for the Blues among the 25 entrants in the event. Myers crossed the line in a time of 2:27.00.

Another sixth-place result, second-year thrower Jason Okpere converted a toss of 15.03m to earn the Top 6 finish in the men's weight throw.

Additionally, the Blues saw three sprinters advance to the men's 60m semifinals as Logan Duley, PK Moyo, and Parker Long all placed within the Top 14 during preliminary races. Duley timed in at 6.85, while Moyo and Long clocked in at 6.83 and 6.95, respectively.
