CHOWN AND IVANOV NAMED OUA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

University of Toronto Varsity Blues soccer standouts Hannah Chown and Alexei Ivanov received OUA athlete of the week honours for the period ending November 2, 2025.

Chown, a fifth-year captain for the Varsity Blues women's soccer team and OUA East MVP delivered a gold medal winning performance in U of T's 1-0 OUA Championship victory over the Guelph Gryphons this past Saturday. A five-time OUA all-star, Chown was tasked with shutting down one of the top offensive teams in the Guelph Gryphons, including the OUA West MVP. Serving as Toronto's primary centre back all season long, Chown did exactly that, helping Toronto to a clean sheet victory. The Varsity Blues veteran was not only stellar defensively, but also secured the gold medal-winning goal, converting a header from a U of T corner kick in the 70th minute. Her outstanding Saturday performance earned her OUA Championship MVP honours and marked history as it secured the first OUA Championship banner in U of T women's soccer program history.

Captain for the Varsity Blues men's soccer team, Ivanov did everything he could to help U of T secure the OUA gold medal in a 2-0 overtime victory versus the York Lions in the championship final on Saturday. The lead centre back for the Blues, Ivanov was tasked with shutting down the attack of perennial powerhouse York, including the OUA West MVP. Playing the full 120 minutes of the overtime thriller at Varsity Stadium, Ivanov played a pivotal role in the clean sheet effort from the home side, including a critical play nearing the final 10 minutes of regulation where he deflected a Lions shot away from a wide open Blues net. Battling throughout the entirety of the highly intense physical match, Ivanov was named player of the match after playing such a crucial role in the Varsity Blues OUA Championship victory.

Both the Varsity Blues women's and men's soccer teams compete this week at the 2025 U SPORTS National Championships. The women face the Trinity Western Spartans in a quarter-final showdown from Hamilton, while the U of T men serve as host for the men's championship challenging the UQTR Patriotes in a primetime quarter-final contest from Varsity Stadium. Both games take place this Thursday, Nov. 6.
