TJOA ANNOUNCED AS NEW VARSITY BLUES BADMINTON HEAD COACH

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues are excited to share the appointment of Brian Tjoa as Varsity Blues badminton head coach, effective immediately.

Tjoa joins the Blues as a long-time coach and club manager, focusing on growth and development across all levels and ages.

"Returning to U of T as head coach is a true privilege," Tjoa said. "As an alum, I understand the tradition of excellence here. I'm excited to combine my coaching experience with the talent of our student-athletes to focus on competitive growth and help them achieve their goals both on-and-off the court."

Currently executive director with Badminton Ontaro, Tjoa is a leader in the province. An NCCP Level 3 certified coach, he served as managing director and team coach with Mandarin Badminton Club from 2013-2019. Additionally, he was a coach with Team Ontario at the 2007 Canada Winter Games.

Bringing plenty of coaching experience, Tjoa has also worked with the Toronto & District Badminton Association, Toronto Badminton & Racquet Club, Toronto High-Performance Club and Bayview Junior Badminton Club.

Tjoa also currently serves as a professor at Seneca Polytechnic College. He holds an MBA from Schulich School of Business and is a U of T alumni completing a BASc in Industrial Engineering.
