In their regular season finale, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team fell 2-0 versus the York Lions on Sunday (Oct. 19) afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
U of T finish the regular season with a 4-4-2 (W-L-T), placing them second in the OUA East division behind only the 7-1-2 Lions.
On the pitch, the Blues were unable to withstand the constant pressure applied by the home side. York would finish the contest outshooting Toronto 13-3.Â
Showing herself to be up to the task, Toronto first-year goalie Mary Yang finished the contest with eight saves on 10 total shots on goal from the Lions. On the other end, fifth-year veteran Molly Cooper-Gray and third-year midfielder Lauren Cardwell were able to register shots on goal for the Blues. Cardwell provided a worthy spark to the Toronto attack, coming off the bench with extra energy.
The Blues will now advance to the OUA Final Four scheduled for next weekend. The championship showcase will also feature the Waterloo Warriors and Guelph Gryphons as the top two teams from the OUA West division. Further opponent and schedule details to follow.
