The No. 3 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team will welcome the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks to Varsity Stadium for an OUA quarter-final showdown this Saturday, October 18, with kick-off scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
The Blues earned a first round playoff bye for the second consecutive season after finishing first overall in the OUA East division with a 10-1-1 (W-L-T) record. Toronto have been a powerhouse all season long leading the province offensively in goals scored (42), while also leading the OUA defensively in goals allowed (8). U of T will enter the quarter-final on a five-match winning streak, outscoring their opponents 24-2 during the late season hot streak.
Becoming a familiar opponent for the Blues, Ontario Tech advanced to the quarter-finals following a 3-2 first-round playoff victory over the Queen's Gaels on Wednesday (Oct. 16). Ontario Tech finished fourth in the OUA East division this season with a 6-5-1 (W-L-T) record. The Ridgebacks were the lone team to hand the Blues a loss this season, knocking off U of T 3-1 at Varsity Stadium in late September. Ontario Tech also ended Toronto's campaign last fall with a 5-2 OUA quarter-final win.
