CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: OUA GOLF

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues golf teams head east down highway 401 this weekend for the 2025 OUA golf championships hosted by Ontario Tech from Oct. 18-19.

This season the men's and women's championships will take place on separate courses. The two round men's provincial showcase will occur at the Oshawa Golf & Country Club, while the women will compete at Watson's Glen Golf Club in Pickering.

The Blues women will be vying for their 11th provincial title in program history after claiming the overall team title at last fall's championship.

U of T heads into the championship on a high, achieving four team podium during the invitational season including gold at both the Waterloo and Toronto Invitationals. Leading the way will be second-year commerce major Mia Wong. The Markham native grabbed individual bronze at the Toronto Invitational, while adding Top 10 finishes at the Waterloo and Western Invitationals.

Wong will be joined by third-year biomedical toxicology student Mia Sung, third-year economics and criminology double major Tara O'Connor, and first-year commerce standout Alyssa Kerner.

Toronto's men will be looking to improve on a 10th place finish from a season ago. U of T last claimed the men's overall team banner in 2008 and previously achieved a podium finish in 2015.

Computer science student Sai Kaja will look to lead the way once again, while being joined by 2024 OUA all-star and PhD candidate Jordan Hutchings. The Varsity Blues veteran Kaja helped the Blues to a team silver at the Toronto Invitational this season, while Hutchings posted the top result for the Toronto men at a very competitive Laurier-Waterloo Invitational.

Rounding out the team for the provincial showcase will be fourth-year CCIT student Bryan Luo, second-year commerce major Desmond White, and first-year Varsity Blue and commerce student Shao Liu.

Round 1 for the women tees off in Pickering on Saturday (Oct. 18) at 10 a.m., while the men will begin an hour later in Oshawa.
