BLUES KICK OFF 2025 AT SHARON ANDERSON MEMORIAL MEET

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team opened 2025 by hosting the Sharon Anderson Memorial Meet on Saturday, January 4 at the Athletic Centre – Bruce Kidd Field House.

MEN'S RESULTS

On the track, Andrej Prekajski and Nick Trieu led the way for the Blues as they claimed the top two spots in the 1000m with times of 2:30.60 and 2:31.05, respectively. They were followed closely by Brandon Cidade (2:32.83) in fifth, Chris Stomadianos (2:35.05) in seventh, and Shan Dhanoa (2:35.23) in eighth.

Toronto secured another first place finish with Anton Mlynczyk's victory in the 1 mile with a time of 4:21.44, followed by Adam Pralat (4:24.74) in third, and Nathan Bergman (4:42.56) in sixth.

In the sprinting events, Parker Long placed third in the 60m finals with a time of 6.96, followed by fourth-year runner Brandon Tang (6.97) in fifth and Phikelela Moyo (7.08) in eighth. Mason McGregor added another third-place finish for the Blues, as the fourth-year jumper's 36.47 time earned a podium spot in the 300m, and Trevor Bowles rounded out the top ten with a 36.96 mark.

Trieu earned third place in the 600m with a time of 1:23.07, with Cidade's 1:24.16 resulting in a fifth place finish, and Dhanoa (1:25.64) coming in at ninth.

In the field, McGregor came out on top in high jump with a mark of 2.00m. Tyler Robertson placed fourth in long jump with a distance of 6.28m. Tobi Oyedele (13.02m) finished third in triple jump. Jason Okpere placed first in the weight throw with a 13.65m tally and second in the shot put with a throw of 11.92m

WOMEN'S RESULTS

Voke Ewhrudjakpor led the way for Toronto, picking up a first- and second-place finish in her two events on the day. The fourth-year thrower claimed first place in shot put with a 12.51m toss, and was then followed up by Maakor Okai in second place at 11.00m and Quinn Miller (9.15m) in fifth. Lily Spoozak placed first in the weight throw with a distance of 17.01m, with Ewhrudjakpor (13.80m) in second.

U of T also saw success in the running events, with the highlight being a first place finish in the 4x200m relay, recording a dominant time of 1:43.34, over six seconds faster than second place. To round out the sprints, Gloria Etim placed second in the 60m with a time of 7.63.

In the medium and long distance events, Marie Boutin (3:07.80) placed fourth in the 1000m and Sophie Levasseur placed fifth in the 1 mile with a 5:17.08 mark, while Quinn Miller picked up a seventh place finish in the 300m with a time of 43.14.

Toronto will travel to Windsor, Ont. next weekend to participate in one of the biggest meets of the season at the Windsor Can-Am Classic on Jan. 10-11.
