PODIUMS APLENTY FOR BLUES AT FRED FOOT CLASSIC

Hosting the annual Fred Foot Classic inside the Athletic Centre - Bruce Kidd Field House, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team delivered stellar results this weekend.

Combined between the men and women, the Varsity Blues garnered 23 total podiums, including nine first place finishes.

Leading the way for the women on the track, third-year veterans Megan Torrance and Emily Wilke finished first and second in the 300m, posting times of 41.80 and 42.26, respectively. Also achieving first place results on the track, first-year sprinter Juliet Premru ran away with the 60m hurdles gold in a time of 9.00, while second-year middle distance specialist Asima Kidwai crossed the line first in the 600m with a time of 1:37.24. Fourth-year distance runner Joud Dabous finished off the track performances with a second place time of 3:07.02 in the 1000m.

The Toronto women also impressed in the field, highlighted by weight thrower Lily Spoozak's first-place toss of 16.97m in the weight throw. Spoozak currently holds the fourth best distance in the event across U SPORTS this season. She was joined on the podium Maakor Okai whose 13.75m measured as the second best distance on the day. by The Blues also earned first and third in the triple jump with Allison MacDonald-Koets clearing 11.67m and Hasveena Arulrajan leaping 11.17m. MacDonald-Koets also claimed first in the long jump with a best mark of 5.32m. Blues high jump veteran Emma Dale took second in the event, successfully clearing 1.60m. Rounding out the field for U of T, Voke Ewhrudjakpor took second in the shot put with a distance of 11.72m, while Okai added a third place to her day with a shot put distance of 11.27m.

Shifting to the men on the track, Brandon Tang sprinted to a second place finish in the highly-competitive 60m, posting a time of 6.95. Claiming the lone first place for the Blues on the track, Christopher De Martin won the 600m in a time of 1:23.00. Distance specialist Christopher Stamadianos rounded out the day with a second place finish in the 1000m in a time of 2:32.11.

In the field, the Blues picked up a one-two finish in the long jump as Clarence Cheung's 6.85m and Justen Denman's 6.62m proved to be the best two distances in the event. Then Tobi Oyedele claimed second overall in the triple jump, clearing 13.61m. In the throws, Jason Okpere took first in the weight throw with a best toss of 15.53m, while picking up second in the shot put with a best mark of 11.82m.

Both Emma Lo and Tyler Robertson added third place finishes, with Lo earning the third step in the women's pentathlon with a point total of 3037, and Robertson taking third in the men's heptathlon with a total of 4003 points tallied.

Also competing this weekend in London at the Don Wright Team Challenge, Julia Agostinelli added a 24th podium for the Blues picking up a second place finish in the women's 1000m with a time of 2:47.46. And competing in Ottawa at the uOttawa Winter Classic, Emmett Bravakis made it lucky number 25 with a third place time of 34.19 in the men's 300m.

Next on the Blues schedule, a select group will travel south of the border to compete at the Penn State National Open on Jan. 31-Feb. 1, before the larger group once again returns to Windsor for the annual Windsor Team Challenge from Feb. 7-8.
