BLUES EXCEL ON DAY 2 OF CAN-AM CLASSIC

Closing out competition in Windsor at the annual Can-Am Classic, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team saw several exceptional performances on Saturday.

MEN'S RESULTS
Leading the charge, U of T saw a 1-2-3 performance in the men's 300m, with Emmett Bravakis (34.80), Felimon Henok (34.88), and Caiden Schultz (35.31) finishing as the Top 3 U SPORTS competitors. The trio then combined with Nickolas Trieu to claim first in the men's 4x400m, with their time of 3:21.70 placing them less than one second ahead of the second-place finishers.

Staying on the track, second-year standout Logan Duley bettered his program record time in the 60m, finishing with the second-best time of any U SPORTS athlete at the event with a time of 6.78. Then in the distance events, the duo of Anton Mlynczyk and Adam Pralat crossed the line third and fifth in the 1 mile with times of 4:20.04 and 4:22.66.

Shifting to the field, U of T dominated in the high jump with Aiden Grout placing first with a leap of 2.11m, Mason McGregor third clearing 2.02m, and Alec Brent fourth with a best of 1.99m. Additionally, the Blues saw Ryan Denman tie for first in the long jump with a best mark of 7.10m. Early in the morning the Blues also received a sixth-place finish from Jason Okpere in the weight throw, recording a best toss of 14.56m.

WOMEN'S RESULTS
Producing the top result for the Blues on an exciting Saturday of competition, first-year sprinter Gloria Etim placed second overall in the 60m. Etim posted a finals time of 7.52, while posting an even better 7.50 during the event semifinals.

Also reaching the podium from the track, U SPORTS veteran Julia Agostinelli placed third in the 1 mile with a time of 4:20.04.

In the field, the Blues impressed most in the weight throw as Lily Spoozak earned a second-place finish with a team-high mark of 16.69m. Meanwhile, Maakor Okai produced the fourth best distance of any U SPORTS competitors, registering a toss of 14.92m, while Voke Ewhrudjakpor was not far behind at 15.25m.

For the women, the day was closed out by the 4x400m relay where the combo of Alexandra Tenn, Megan Torrance, Michaela Wilson, and Agostinelli combined for a third-place finish, posting a time of 4:03.51.

Next up for the Blues will be serving as host for the annual Fred Foot Classic. Taking place inside the Bruce Kidd Field House at the Athletic Centre, competition is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17 and 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18.
