The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team traveled to Windsor this weekend for the annual Can-Am Classic, opening competition on Friday (Jan. 10) night.
Leading the Blues results on Day 1 of the two-day competition, Toronto saw two podium finishes in the relays.
The combination of Emmett Bravakis, Brandon Tang, Caiden Schultz and Logan Duley placed third in the men's 4x200m with a time of 1:30.64, followed closely behind in fourth by the U of T foursome of Felimon Henok, Parker Long, Liam LeMay, and PK Moyo (1:31.79).
Meanwhile in the women's 4x200m relay, the Blues crew of Gloria Etim, Alexandra Tenn, Megan Torrance, and Michaela Wilson also combined for a third-place finish, posting a time of 1:42.79.
Rounding out the strong relay outings for Toronto, the Blues finished fourth in the men's 4x800m with the group of Nickolas Trieu, Samuel Myers, Andrej Prekajski, and Brandon Cidade finishing in a time of 7:44.47.
Shifting to the field, Quinn Miller produced one of the top finishes for U of T on Day 1 tying for fifth in the women's pole vault, being one of just six women to successfully clear 3.75m. Veteran thrower Voke Ewhrudjakpor also placed fifth in the women's shot put, posting a best distance of 11.62m. For the men, Tobi Oyedele placed sixth in the triple jump with a best leap of 13.49m.
Action continues tomorrow in Windsor beginning in the field at 8:30 a.m., before track events start at 10:30 a.m.
