TORONTO FALLS TO NO. 4 GUELPH

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's rugby team were in tough on Saturday (Sept. 7) at Varsity Stadium, falling 96-0 versus the No. 4 nationally ranked Guelph Gryphons.

Facing off against the 2023 OUA championship finalist in their second game of the new season, the Blues were ready to be physical with the perennial contender. Strong defensive tackling was needed as the Gryphons utilized an impressive combination of size and speed. U of T veterans Andrea Girard and Emma Yang were noticeable on the field defensively, chasing down and tackling several Guelph runners throughout the duration of the contest. Meanwhile, Mary Adewa, Sydney Heighington and Sadie Kabrhel attempted some downhill running through the stout Gryphons defence.

With the loss, the Blues current home winning streak was snapped at four straight games. Toronto will next hit the highway for their first road game of the season, traveling to Kingston to challenge another tough opponent in the No. 2 Queen's Gaels next Saturday (Sept. 14).
