The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's rugby team defeated the visiting Trent Excalibur by a score of 33-22 on Saturday (Sept. 28) afternoon at Varsity Stadium.
Toronto jumped out to a 19-0 lead in the first half, with tries coming from Emma Yang, Sydney Heighington, and Mary Adewa, with Sadie Kabrhel converting twice.
After the Excalibur scored six minutes into the second half, Adewa added her second try not long after to give Toronto a 26-5 lead with 30 minutes to play. Trent responded with three more tries of their own, but the push was too little too late, as Toronto's defence held firm for the remainder of the game. Yang sealed the game when she scored her second try of the day with just seconds to play before the final buzzer, securing the Blues victory.
The Blues improve to 2-3 on the season, and are back in action on Saturday, October 5 when they travel to York to face the Lions. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
