BLUES STIFLE MARAUDERS AT HOME

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the McMaster Marauders 3-1 on Friday night (Sept. 27) at Back Campus Fields.

The Blues came out strong, controlling possession for the majority the first quarter and generating plenty of offensive opportunities, but the quarter ended with no score. The Blues broke the deadlock just a couple minutes into the second quarter when Ava Airnes buried a rebound for her second goal of the season. Sophia De Uria added another tally before the half to give the Blues a 2-0 lead.

McMaster responded with pressure of their own in the second half, and Toronto stood tall with strong defence and goaltending from Deepi Gill. McMaster's Ella German cut the deficit to one goal just before the conclusion of the frame. Blues captain McKinley Kennedy added an insurance marker in the fourth quarter to regain a two-goal lead for the Blues that they would hold for the remainder of the game.

With this win, the Blues improve to 2-0-1 on the season.

Toronto looks to keep their winning ways going when they visit the Western Mustangs in London on Sunday, September 29. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
