University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's field hockey goalie Mary Yang has been named OUA athlete of the week for the period ending October 25, 2026.
Named player of the match in the OUA Field Hockey Championship final on Sunday, Yang played a pivotal role in the Varsity Blues winning their 35th provincial title in program history. The second-year goalkeeper from Calgary made four saves throughout regulation as the Blues and Lions ended the first 60 minutes deadlocked 1-1. Heading to a shootout to determine who would claim the OUA banner, Yang would make three saves including the game-clinching effort in the fifth round to secure the trophy for U of T. Yang also started in net for the Blues in their 2-0 semifinal win over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, making three saves in the clean sheet victory.
This marks the second time Yang has earned OUA athlete of the week honours this fall previously receiving the recognition following a two clean sheet weekend back in September.
The Varsity Blues field hockey team have extended their 2026 campaign with the provincial championship victory earning qualification for 2026 National Bank Field Hockey Canada U SPORTS Championship, presented by Farm Mutual Re, at the University of Waterlo from Novemeber 5-8.
