The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team continued competition at the 2024 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships on Friday (Mar. 8) in Winnipeg, Man.
MEN'S RESULTS: Beginning with sprinter Emmett Bravakis, the Blues veteran earned his fifth career U SPORTS medal after finishing first in the men's 300m final with a time of 33.72. Showing continuous improvement throughout his career, this marked his first 300m gold at the U SPORTS championships following a silver in 2023 and bronze in 2022. The mark of 33.72 also ranks as the second fastest 300m in Blues program history.
Another sprinter in David Adeleye, the hurdle specialist made it a photo finish in the men's 60m hurdle final finishing just 0.02 seconds back of first place to claim silver with a time of 7.83. Competing at his third U SPORTS championship, Adeleye's national silver marks his best career result, topping a bronze in 2022. Meanwhile, his time of 7.83 also marks the second fastest 60m hurdles in Varsity Blues program history.
Rounding out a trio of medals for the Blues men, jumper Aiden Grout earned silver in the men's high jump, clearing 2.07m to claim the second step on the podium. Competing at his third U SPORTS championships, Grout has medaled in each trip to the national event, previously collecting silver in 2023 and gold in 2022. In addition to another high jump medal, Grout also finished 11
th in the men's heptathlon, scoring 3,521 points in the seven-event category.
WOMEN'S RESULTS: In a highly competitive field of 13 participants, fourth-year pole vaulter Alexzandra Throndson delivered the top result for the Blues women on Day 2 with a fourth-place finish in the women's pole vault. Throndson was one of only four competitors to clear 4.00m, but due to count back she would just miss out on the podium.
Shifting to the track, Blues veteran sprinter Paulina Procyk earned a spot in the women's 60m hurdles final after delivering a sensational run in prelims, posting an impressive time of 8.69. Procyk would go on to finish eighth overall.
Additional Day 2 results include Christina Esposito finishing 11
th in the women's 1000m with a time of 2:54.32, Annika Flanigan placing 11
th in the women's pole vault clearing 3.60m, Voke Ewhrudjakpor
 11
th in the women's shot put, and Jasmine Lew finishing 12
th in the long jump with a best mark of 5.25m.
