PRICE-ROBERTS HIGHLIGHTS DAY 1 FOR VARSITY BLUES AT U SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field teams began competition at the 2024 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships on Thursday (Mar. 7) in Winnipeg, Man.

WOMEN'S RESULTS: Delivering the first gold medal for U of T at the national showcase, Phoebe Price-Roberts finished first in the women's weight throw with a best throw of 17.98m. In her first season with the Blues, Price-Roberts converted her fifth of six attempts for the win, putting together the perfect combination of strength and coordination with her spinning technique. She also etched her named into the Toronto record books, setting a new program best mark, surpassing the previous record of 17.62m set by Blues alumna Ekua Cudjoe in 2015.

MEN'S RESULTS: Continuing Day 1 action, Varsity Blues veteran Aiden Grout currently sits 12th in the men's heptathlon with a score of 2,010 after four events. Grout began the day with a fifth-place finish in the 60m dash (7.24), while tying for first in the long jump (6.79m). He then finished 13th in the shot put (10.55m) and 11th in the high jump (NH). Grout will conclude the seven-event competition with the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m.

Day 1 of the national championships was rounded out by preliminary races for the 4x200m relays. The Blues men (Emmett Bravakis, Brandon Tang, Adam Exley, Caiden Shultz) qualified for the event final after finishing fifth in the prelims with a time of 1:29.08.


The 2024 U SPORTS National Championship continues tomorrow (Mar. 8) with the Blues back in action inside the James Daley Field House as of 4 p.m. All the events are streamed live on cbcsports.ca.
