Following a silver medal in the team event earlier in the week, University of Toronto Varsity Blues badminton players combined for seven total medals in the individual portion of the 2024 YONEX Canadian University College Badminton Championship.

Competing against some of the best competitors from across the country, U of T badminton featured 20 players in the individual events at the national showcase event. With separate medalists in each of the categories of singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, Blues players achieved seven medal results, including three gold medals.

Leading the way with two gold medals apiece, U of T badminton veterans Jacqueline Cheung and Ryan Zheng finished first in the mixed doubles event, defeating fellow Blue Jackie Dent and her teammate Thomas Dent in the event final. Cheung then paired up with Dent in the women's doubles event where they were able to earn another first place result. Meanwhile, Zheng and partner Samson Chan placed first overall in the men's doubles event.

Additional medals for Blues competitors came via Dent, picking up silver in the women's singles to round out a three medal haul for the OUA rookie of the year at the national championship. Fellow first-year Varsity Blue Harold Tan took to the second step of the podium in the men's singles. As a semi-finalist in the women's singles A-bracket, Chloe Choi also earned a bronze, while in the men's doubles A-bracket U of T athletes made up three of the four final pairs with the duos of Nathan Mills and Harold Tan, and Victor Huang and Edward Zhang receiving bronze.
