VARSITY BLUES BADMINTON WINS SECOND STRAIGHT NATIONAL TITLE

Competing at the 2026 YONEX Canadian University College Championship, hosted at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit in Longueuil, Que., the University of Toronto Varsity Blues delivered a perfect weekend to secure a second consecutive national title.

In a rematch of the OUA Championship final just a few weeks prior, the Varsity Blues faced off against the Waterloo Warriors in the gold medal match on Sunday (Mar. 22). In the five-point format, U of T would come out on top with a 3-2 victory securing the top step of the national podium once again. Both OUA Rookies of the Year Asher Bedi and Emma Meng grabbed wins in the singles categories, while the combo of Clarence Chau and Nathan Mills captured the men's doubles points to reach the pivotal three-point threshold.

Toronto earned their spot in the gold medal match after delivering a perfect 3-0 record during round-robin matches on Saturday (Mar. 21). U of T knocked off Alberta 4-1, Montreal 3-2, and McGill 5-0. The three victories launched the Blues into the semifinal round where they challenged a familiar foe in the Western Mustangs. With Bedi, Meng, and the duo of Chau and Mills earning three-points for U of T in the semifinal, they would finish the Final Four showdown with a 3-1 win to advance to the championship final the next day.

The Varsity Blues badminton program have now won nine of the last 10 provincial titles along with the two consecutive national banners.
